New Projects

Hey there!

Ok... I know. It's been a long time since I wrote the last post about information concerning the English Program... My bad.

However, life goes on and on. So, here are the news:

(This one for the people that, still, don't know it) The President of the EPSC quit. Yes, she did. I had the opportunity to talk to her and have a chat with and she told me that problem.

The EPSC still rules.

Class Representative (CR)
I thought it was going to be a good idea the fact of having a Class Representative (CR) per class/year to cover a wider level of the students' requirements, suggestions and issues. In that way the CRs are:
1st year: Felipe Ceas
2nd year: Alejandro Cornejo
3rd year: Ana Lorca
4th year: Bernardita Orellana
5th year: Open invitation to join this group.

CRs will work with the EPSC as a team. Ok... THEY SHOULD.

The current President of the EPSC must call Crs to meetings.

********** FOR EPSC***********
Remember. This is very important to know specially EPSC: EVERY SINGLE MEETING, even if it is official or not MUST BE WRITTEN DOWN INTO PAPER and then INFORMED VIA EMAIL TO ME PLEASE. In that way it will exist a proof that you are really organized and you all want things going right.
*******************************

I need to hold a meeting with you all to prepare HALLOWEEN 2008. (If you want) :D

Regards and best wishes,

Professor M. Salinas

EPSC

After the meeting with EPEC, we had some problems concerning the voting. During the established dates for registering the candidates, no one appeared. In that way, EPEC had to extend the dates for the registration and, also, the voting. Otherwise, the students would have had only a representative per class/year. I don't know if the students saw any EPSC publicity. It's odd because EPEC published them all and everywhere in the campus.

It was in that extension week that Patricia presented a list. No one else did. So, we had a plebiscite in which the students had to vote whether they wanted that student center or not.

We needed just a date, votes, a ballot box, and, of course, the students. We had all but the ballot box. EPEC tried to borrow one in the San Fernando City Council. However, I told them that I was going to make one. At the beginning, they didn't believe the fact that I could make one but I did. Ok... it wasn't the best, most perfect ballot box but, at least, we had one. Moreover, it was our own.

Then, we had all. EPEC wanted to stay outside waiting for students to vote, but I thought it was a bad idea. So I asked if they could at least stay in the (mini) lunch room. And, they could.

So, the plebiscite was on June 18th. It started from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Here are some pictures:

The first (UMAR San Fernando) English Program Student Center was democratically elected on June 18, 2008.

CONGRATULATIONS!

EPEC

The English Program Election Committee (EPEC) -or what we say here in Chile TRICEL (Tribunal Calificador de Elecciones) was formed on May 8th, 2008.
The members are: (in order of class/year in college)

(Actually, I chose them... well I MADE them participate in EPEC because it was necessary).

1st year: Soledad R., Damaris O., Samantha L., Maribel O.
2nd year: Jorge B.
3rd year: Felipe P.
4th year:Sergio P., Fernando M.

I didn't ask 5th years students whether they wanted to participate in this, because they don't have enough time.

On the same date, we all had a meeting in which we talked about all the issues concerning
the election of the next English Program Student Center (EPSC).

I thank EPEC people too much. I really appreciate when students care about their University apart from studying and getting grades or marks (you call it!).

So, guys, THANKS!

The Teacher, The Professor, The Tutor.

Hey! How are you doing? First of all, I'll tell you a summary of my story in UMAR.
Summary:
My name's Marcos Salinas. I'm an English Teacher and an English Spanish Translator. These are the facts since I started to work in UMAR, San Fernando:
I begun supervising Practice Courses on late September 2007. It was very hard, because Ximena Sanhueza (the English-Program Headteacher) and I had to organize, plan and set up everything again! We walked miles and miles looking for the practice centers until we find some -I didn't have a car yet. In that way, all the English-Program students could've done their practices in the best way it could be done. So, 2007 ended up with nothing but good achievements. Fortunately...
In that way, 2008 arrived. I was given some EFL lectures in UMAR. Also, some lectures in the English Teaching Program (from 1st to 5th year). By this time, I had already studied the situations that the Program and its students were into.
I decided to start organizing the students (although, they told me they tried. However, nothing happened...)
So, this is what I did. First, The Election Committee. Then, the English-Program Student Center (EPSC). The EPSC was just elected -democratically of course.
And, here we are.
Thanks for reading.
